Moroccan Berber Hand Woven Textile
Bring on all of the southwestern vibes with this beauty!
This newly made, handwoven Berber textile is very soft to the touch and coloured in such a rich, deep maroon.
This beautiful pattern is symbolic to the traditional facial tattoos women have throughout Morocco. These tattoos are not as common nowadays as our world modernizes, especially not in the cities, but as I was traveling through the mountains we stumbled upon a village near Ouarzazate where I spotted about six women with these intricate Berber tattoos. The tattoos differentiate which tribe a woman comes from and as a woman goes through her life she may acquire more tattoos to display her marital status, if she has been divorced, and so on it goes as her story unfolds. These symbols that have been translated into textiles have made a place in my heart and I am so happy to share this limited collection with you!
We love textiles this size because they can be used in so many ways! You can display this as a wall hanging, like we have here, or you can put it on the floor (it is a rug after all!), you can throw it over a chair for colour, or throw it on the bottom of your bed and layer with blankets. What a fun way to get creative!
